In reasearching playhut models, I couldn’t find detailed info on this one. I took a chance and ordered it. The number of stars I have given it shouldn’t be taken too seriously at this point as the kids aren’t getting it until Christmas – that’s the true review. For those of you who are considering buying, but want more info, here it is. The Playhut Megaland comes with three huts (34″x42″x34″, 28″x34″x28″ and 28″x 30″ x 28″) and two tunnels (both 20″x 18″). It comes with 48 ballpit balls (they are small, about 2″)and two soft blow up balls (basketball and soccer ball). These also small, about 3″ round.
Unlike the lil’ explorers Megaland Jungle model that was reported not to have a floor in the ball pit, THIS MODEL DOES HAVE A FLOOR IN THE BALLPIT. It The entrance to the ballpit has velcro to keep it closed, but if the tunnels aren’t attached to the ballpit sides, it looks like ball may fly out. There is not a way to secure the flaps when tunnels are not connected. Overall, so far it looks like a great gift for the price I paid. I’ll weigh in on the verdict after the holiday.

I got this item less than half off, so my elation with it is based on the value of the product for what I paid. However, I will try to give a straight-forward review. This Playhut model has 3 different rooms and 2 tunnels. It comes with a few SMALL balls. The “soccer ball” is not black and white as pictured. In the one I received, it is red-orange and black. The “basketball” is red-orange. Both the soccer and basket balls are about the size of my fist. They are “squishy”, soft, and filled with air (GREAT for little ones, but not at all standard).

The ball pit balls that are included are minimal, small, and flimsy. They are not really going to give you the “ball-pit” experience. I dumped 150 more standard size ball-pit balls in and it could still use 50-100 more to really give you that feel, but it is certainly good enough. The ball-pit module has one mesh wall with a small mesh “basketball hoop” velcroed on the outside. It has 2 holes for tunnel options. These 2 holes have flaps that can be tied down to make the wall impassable. They can also be rolled and tied up and out of the way. This applies to ALL tunnel holes throughout the Playhut. On only this module (ball-pit) there is a lip at the base of the tunnel holes to help keep the balls inside. The 4th wall of the ball-pit module is cut in an upside-down “T” shape. There are 3 velcro tabs that can be used to make this wall more impassable. This module has an open top so balls can be tossed into or out of the pit. There is also a floor on this module.

The “soccer” module has a roof and 2 tunnel holes but no floor. One side is almost completely open to allow it to function as a soccer net. The wall opposite that opening is a completely solid wall.

The final module is the more triangular one. It does have a roof. Again, no floor. This module has 4 multi-size/color holes to toss balls into and out of the module. Opposite the ball-toss wall is one of two tunnel holes on this module. The 4th wall is completely solid.

This unit comes with 2 tunnels. Both are short and have 2 flat sides and 2 more rounded sides.

The hut comes all folded up and secured inside a carry bag for easy transport. I was stunned that I was actually able to fit the entire set back INSIDE that bag. It really is easy to get it back in the bag (might take a few minutes to figure out how to fold the tunnels and get the larger modules into the small circular shape). The instructions are little to no help with anything, just so you know. This set is not very sturdy and it looks like the wire could be bent by older children if they are roughhousing. It would probably also be easy to bend it back. We have only set this up once so far, but it also seems like the material could rip at the seams and around the attachment areas after some more rough play. This is not much of an issue yet with my 1 year old. I am thrilled with this purchase and LOVE that it is actually VERY portable! I was able to set the whole thing up in about 5 minutes and tearing it down was just as easy. My son is thrilled with it and spent over an hour crawling in and out and bringing various toys inside to sit and play.
